Alcossebre's playgrounds are spread around the town and its estates, and the reliable way to find them is the official map of playgrounds and sports areas published by the town council, where they're marked with a red star. We'd rather point you to it than give you a list that might go out of date.

How to use the playground map
- Open the map of playgrounds and sports areas on your phone before you set off.
- Look for the red stars: each one is a playground.
- Combine the playground with the beach or the seafront promenade, so the children get sand in the morning and swings in the afternoon.
- If in doubt, the Tourist Info in Plaza Vistalegre, Alcossebre, can point you in the right direction.
Beaches for children in Alcossebre
Alcossebre has more than 10 km of coastline. According to the town's tourism website, Les Fonts, Carregador and Romana beaches have a children's area or activities, and these are the ones we recommend for swimming with little ones.
| Beach | Size | What matters with kids |
|---|---|---|
| Les Fonts (Las Fuentes) | 400 × 40 m | Fine sand, lifeguards, toilets, showers, foot taps, ramps, children's area and equipment hire. Freshwater springs in the sand. The nearest to Marcomar (1.3 km) |
| Carregador | 850 × 70 m | Fine sand, central beach, fully accessible, with seafront promenade, sailing club and paddleboard hire. Unbroken Blue Flag since 1987 |
| Romana | 500 × 40 m | Fine, accessible sand, linked to the Carregador by the Senda Litoral wooden boardwalk |
| El Moro | 300 × 30 m | Small, fine sand between rocks, with lifeguards, showers and toilets |

Les Fonts, the beach with the springs
Les Fonts beach lies north of Las Fuentes marina and is the closest to the Marcomar Apartments. Its curiosity is that fresh water bubbles up through the sand from an old underground aquifer. It has lifeguards, toilets, showers and a children's area, so it's easy for a morning on the beach with young children.
The Carregador, the classic beach
The Carregador is Alcossebre's central beach: long, wide and with fine sand, with a protected dune system where sea daffodils grow. It's fully accessible, which makes it much easier with a pushchair, and the seafront promenade is right behind it for the walk back.
The Romana and the boardwalk
From the Carregador, a wooden boardwalk (the Senda Litoral) leads to Playa Romana, another fine sandy, accessible beach. The walk along the boardwalk, with the sea beside you, is a little adventure in itself for children.

Tips for the beach with kids
- Choose a beach with a lifeguard and settle near their post.
- Avoid the middle of the day in July and August: first thing and late afternoon are better.
- Water shoes if you're going to rocky areas, such as El Moro or the ends of the beaches.
- Respect the Carregador dunes: they're a protected habitat with sea daffodils, so cross only on the boardwalks.
- Bring shade and water, even if there are beach bars nearby.
And if it rains or it's too hot
For the middle of the day in summer, the children's pool at the Marcomar Apartments is the best alternative: shade at home, a nap and a peaceful swim. And for a different day out, Aquarama water park in Benicàssim is about 35 km away.
When the sun goes down, a good option is the walk to the lighthouse and the Serra d'Irta coves, always as an outing rather than for a swim.
